What better way to beat the Holiday Gimmees and observe Red Letter Days than to practice good deeds? Here's a way to discover the true meaning of holidays and heroes. Please join us in celebrating the following Season of Service..

It's December 22 - Do you know where the homeless in your community are? For many cities, the beginning of winter heralds a concerted effort to locate and identify homeless citizens. Students understand and serve the causes of homelessness when they:

Participate… in a local homeless census. Publicize outreach by writing editorials and letters to the editor for school and local papers.

 

Research… Facts About Homelessness. Invite community leaders to a schoolwide panel discussion.

 

Volunteer… at a Veterans Homeless Shelter.

 

Collaborate… on an Artists Act Against Homelessness project.

 

Read… about a homeless family. Design a web site educating peers about our nation's homeless children.

 

Learn… about the Bringing America Home Act. Write congressional representatives to support the bill.

 

Contribute… student authored articles, poetry, and stories to street newspapers like Spare Change.

 

Conduct… food drives, book drives, clothes drives, and toy drives. Bring new or nearly new donations to homeless shelters and transitional housing centers.

 

Walk… for the Homeless. Walk for Hunger.

 

Raise… youngsters' awareness of homelessness. Show them How Little Hands Help the Homeless.

 

Join… a local Habitat for Humanity group.
