When You Are 82

Name_____________________________________ Date____________________

Assignment:

1) Choose 1 question from the Interview Questions for Senior Pals. Only, this time, you will answer the question, because you are going forward in time, until you are 82!

2) Brainstorm ideas for answering the question. You may either do a web or a quick write (jot down ideas as quickly as they come to you).

3) Write a paragraph in which you answer the interview question. Remember to visualize your life between now and 70 years from now. Remember to use specific details and examples to make your writing come alive. (15 points for final paragraph)

4) Double space your paragraph. (That means skip lines.) Reread and make any corrections you can see.

5) Have a friend read your paragraph. And make the following suggestions:

  • Changes in grammar (sentences, spelling, capitalization, etc.)
  • Suggestions to make your paragraph more interesting.
  • Comments about what is good in your paragraph.

6) Write a final comment (separate from your paragraph) about what it will feel like to be old. Will you like being a senior citizen? Will you be frustrated? What do you think? Will you take full advantage of every day as Dylan Thomas advises? Will you enjoy sitting in a rocking chair next to the ones you love like the grandfather and granddaughter in When I am Old With You? How will you feel about being old? (10 points)
