review what we’ve studied this year for the final exam, and (b) help teach
others about American history, we are producing a “Then-and-Now” historical
newspaper. Your job is as follows:

Write an article about an event we’ve studied in American history this year. Pretend that you are a journalist living at
the time of the event, so you are writing “from the middle of the action.” You don’t know what has happened later on in American
history. You will use the Newspaper
Article Prewriting Worksheet to help you plan and write your story. Sign up for a topic on the sheet on the
blackboard.

b. An article about a current event (something
that occurred this year, in school, in
c. A letter to the editor (either historical or current)
d. An obituary about a great leader who has just
died (historical)
e. A historical advertisement, horoscope, crossword puzzle, Jumble,
“Dear Abby,” cartoon, etc.

If you write or draw additional articles, advertisements, letters
to the editor, comic strips, etc., you will earn extra credit. Each item is worth 5-50 bonus points,
depending on how much work it required and how well it is done.
(4) Another way to earn extra credit is to
work on the Newspaper Editorial Board.
We will meet during and after school (I have to warn you; last year we
stayed after school until 6 or 7 p.m. a few nights in a row) to type up, edit, lay out, and publish the newspaper.
